“I'm still tired often”: Barbara Sarafian gives an update on her battle with breast cancer in 'The smartest person in the world'

 

As a jury member, Barbara Sarafian (56) already earned her stripes in 'De slimste mens ter wereld', and on Wednesday evening she was also allowed to prove herself as a participant in the popular quiz. A task that the VTM landlady fully acquitted herself of, although it was mainly the candor about her battle with breast cancer that made everyone silent. And then a naked Jelle Cleymans had to ask a question...

An emotional start to this episode, thanks to a remarkably honest Barbara Sarafian. In her first TV appearance since her doctor discovered a carcinoma ( an early form of breast cancer, ed.) in early June , the actress immediately gave an update on her health. “I’m doing well, but I’m tired sometimes and I can suddenly fall asleep,” she said – after which a joke followed. “So if I fall asleep here: leave me alone. I’ll wake up and continue playing.”

There was a brief chuckle in the studio, after which Barbara became serious again. “I also want to take this moment to thank everyone,” she said. “It’s too much to do it via social media, but I want to say ‘thank you’ for all the sweet messages I’ve received, the support I’ve received... And also to all my sisters in a difficult situation: lots of strength and courage.”
