The country icon and his wife, Norma, made a rare public appearance at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday, Nov. 20, to attend the Country Music Association's 58th annual awards show.
Though it appeared that Strait, 72, had skipped the red carpet, the CMAs panned over to him during the opening remarks by Luke Bryan, Peyton Manning and Lainey Wilson, who are hosting this year's show. Strait and his wife later posed in their seats for a photo with Post Malone, with Strait donning an all-black outfit and matching cowboy hat as Norma wore a black and white sleeveless dress.
While fans online were excited to see Strait in the audience, many couldn't help but notice that he appeared less than thrilled by the new country music that the show was celebrating.
"I can’t help but wonder what George Strait is thinking about today’s country music sitting in the front row," one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
